Heavy showers and strong gusts of wind alternating with dazzling sunlight. Typical for the rainy season on Cuba. The LEICA S2 shows here in the hands of the Photographer Maik Scharfscheer, shows its true size. It produces one of a kind photographs.

There are doubtless many far more pleasant locations for a fashion shoot in August – but only a few capable of generating such unique pictures and allowing a new camera to demonstrate its class so impressively.
Yet the extreme climatic conditions were only one reason for choosing Cuba for the first outdoor shoot location with the new LEICA S2. With its famous seaside promenade of Malecón, Havana not only provided the breathtaking backdrop for this fashion shoot but also the creative inspiration with the chosen theme of boxing. Here it helps to appreciate that boxing is the declared national sport on Cuba and that the Caribbean island is the world power in amateur boxing. Nowhere is the passion for this sport so authentic and so lively. The perfect atmosphere for an unusual fashion shoot that gave the new S2, in the hands of the Photographer Maik Scharfscheer, an opportunity to underline its claim to greatness. Just as one would expect from a champion.
An original boxing ring was set up specially for the shoot on Malecón, not far from the Castillo de San Salvador, surrounded by towering scaffolding. Everything for the perfect staging of a “mock bout” in which a model clad in different outfits was to rise as the heroic protagonist. Then it was time for the S2 to enter the ring. Whether lying in the dust or shooting from lofty heights – thanks to its compactness, its ease of handling and not least its robustness, the camera effortlessly mastered every round. Unbeatably fast with a frame rate of up to 1.5 pictures per second. These are only some of the many characteristics that make the new LEICA S2 a true professional. For, at the final count, it is above all the brilliant picture results that underpin the camera’s claim to greatness and do full credit to the Leica name: LEICA S2 a class of its own.
